For true connoisseurs and curious palates: Start with a seasonal fresh salad bowl, followed by two creative starters of your choice. A refreshing smoothie shot prepares the palate for your choice of main course – fish, meat, or a refined vegetarian option. A dessert, cheese selection or sorbet round off your experience. Head Chef Sebastian Jöchl began his culinary journey right here at the boutique hotel Unterlechner – with a solid dual apprenticeship and a deep passion for the art of cooking. He then embarked on an exciting journey of discovery through the world of fine cuisine. His path led him to prestigious gourmet hotels such as Relais & Châteaux Tennerhof in Kitzbühel, where he worked under Stefan Lenz (Chef of the Year, 4 toques Gault&Millau), and to the Quellenhof, where he gained valuable experience and refined his culinary skills.
Since 2020, Sebastian has been back – bringing fresh ideas, a deep connection to his roots, and a true love for regional products. Together with Sous-chef Sonja Reiter, he delights guests with honest, heartfelt cuisine.
We use 99% regional ingredients from the Alpine region – including meat sourced directly from farmers and hunters in the Pillersee Valley. Our fruits and vegetables are largely seasonal and locally grown. We serve only fish and seafood from regional waters such as the Danube, Inn, Chiemsee and more – you won’t find any saltwater fish on our menu. In our kitchen, we also bring nearly forgotten dishes, rare local vegetables and herbs, and traditional recipes back to life.
Our kitchen is awarded 3 toques by Gault&Millau and recommended in the MICHELIN Guide.

Our wine list is a love letter to craftsmanship, terroir, and soul – from up-and-coming stars to established icons. We love: Whites from Austria, France & Germany, Reds from Italy & France, a secret affair with natural wines, a deep love for Champagne. We prefer wines with character and origin – and stories. Not just “notes of blackcurrant” – we want to know who makes the wine, how, and why. Oh, and yes: it should taste amazing. We serve all wines in hand-blown RIEDEL glasses from nearby Kufstein – because details matter.

This prestigious international wine list award from Sweden is judged by a top-tier panel of the world’s leading sommeliers. The evaluation is based on range, depth, originality, and value.
Since 2021, we have also been part of the exclusive circle of Ambassadeurs for Rothschild Champagne. Only a select few establishments are granted this title and may serve as ambassadors for the prestigious Champagne Barons de Rothschild. This exceptional champagne embodies outstanding quality, elegance, and tradition – and is available exclusively at our boutique hotel.

What kind of cuisine can I expect at Restaurant Esskultur?
Our culinary style is best described as modern, traditional, French, and regional. At its core lies classic French cuisine, refined with Austrian influences. We work almost exclusively with products from the Alpine region, offering a wide range of authentic and seasonal flavors.
Can I just come in for a drink?
Of course! You’re more than welcome to stop by for a glass (or bottle) of wine without ordering a full menu. Cheers!
Do you offer vegetarian or vegan options?
We offer vegetarian dishes daily, but no vegan meals.
I have a food allergy – what should I know before my visit?
Please inform us of any intolerances or dietary preferences (such as vegetarian alternatives) at least 48 hours in advance.
Can I eat on the terrace?
Yes, gladly from April to October – weather permitting.
How much do the menus cost?
You’ll find all current prices listed on our menu pages on the website.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, American Express, EC debit cards, VISA, and Mastercard.
What are the opening hours?
Tuesday to Saturday: Gourmet Day Menu & Bistro dishes (from 2:00 pm) and Wednesday to Friday: 3-toque Esskultur Signature Menu.
Is there a dress code in the restaurant?
Whether hoodie or blazer – come as you are. What counts is kindness! We do appreciate a minimum age of 14 in the restaurant. We don’t check, but we can feel it ;-) Have fun!
Is the restaurant wheelchair accessible?
Yes, the restaurant is fully accessible for guests with reduced mobility.
Are children allowed?
Please note that we are an adults-only hotel and restaurant. We are happy to welcome young guests aged 10 and older.
Corkage fee?
€35 per bottle. Magnums: double. For Romanée-Conti & Pétrus: €36 per bottle.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes – upon request only. We offer a separate dining area where dogs are welcome.

How do I reserve for five or more people?
For groups of five or more guests dining from our Esskultur Signature Menu, we kindly ask for your menu and course selections in advance, so we can ensure a smooth experience. For our Bistro & Gourmet Day Menu, no advance menu selection is needed.
Until when can I cancel free of charge?
You may cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your reservation. Later cancellations or no-shows will incur a €100 per person cancellation fee. This policy helps us manage the growing number of last-minute cancellations.
Where can I stay overnight?
Right here, at our boutique hotel! Feel free to request a room when making your restaurant reservation.
Can I purchase a gift voucher?
Absolutely – vouchers are available on-site or we’ll gladly send one to you by post.
Ash Wednesday
On Ash Wednesday, we serve our refined Gourmet Day Menu instead of the 3-toque Signature Menu. Price: €99 The menu includes two starters, a vegetarian and a fish intermediate course, a main dish, and a dessert. We refrain from serving meat on this special day.
Valentine’s Day
Celebrate love with our elevated Valentine’s Gourmet Menu instead of the Signature Menu. Price: €99 Includes two starters, two intermediate courses, a main, and dessert – plus a sweet little surprise for the ladies. ❤️
New Year’s Eve
We call it our “peaceful New Year’s Eve” – mindeful, relaxed, and filled with delight. On December 30, we kick things off with a small pre-Silvester fire and laser show on our terrace – external guests welcome! On December 31, we offer only our 3-toque Gourmet Menu (starting at 6:00 pm with an aperitif), followed by a quiet, elegant terrace celebration to ring in the new year.
